Had problem again, this time dealer couldn't replicate. Transmission does not shift properly. I am still angry that the Nissan dealership did not give me a good deal on my car. The transmission lines would also be flushed with a cleaner and trans fluid to get the contamination out of there. Had the transmission flushed and problem didn't go away. Several parts near it replaced. Replaced rear latch gate handle because of rust.
Install new transmission filter, gaskets and seals and transmission fluid. Had to wait a week for new one. How Nissan didn't provide a recall for this problem is beyond me. I could have had the radiator diverted initially and avoided this or bought a different car altogether. New radiators are equipped with an upgraded transmission fluid cooler to assure against further fluid contamination.
Not only does the radiator stop cooling the transmission, but the resulting slurry of coolant and transmission fluid eats valves, erodes seals and speeds up corrosion. Dealer fixed all items at no charge to us. Got a lift to Roblin, Manitoba. . They were not even a mile from our home. He is 85 and went to the dealer for an inspection. Over time the problem becomes worse and the whining is continuous.
After 4 previous Nissans, I will not buy another Nissan or Infiniti vehicle again. Mechanic at Cross-town told me the transmission was gone. Dealer declined to offer any assistance, or ask their local Nissan After-Sales Rep for any assistance. Next the transmission it's self would be removed and replaced along with the torque converter. I do not know aht their usual charges woud lbe for the wrok they di.
I told him that is irrelevant. There was also a fix that could be applied that would keep the problem from happening. Since I had no car to drive. Drove vehicle to dealer and they said that the transmission had failed on vehicle and it would need a new one. .
On the way there he incurred a bad vibration and eventually the dealer told him of the problem. Reset them and they stayed off till sold car. There was confusion about whether the radiator warranty extension covered resulting damage to the transmission. Replaced free under drivetrain warranty. With this being an issue on Nissan's part, I feel that they should pay to have the problem resolved!!! Reinstall new transmission in reverse order.
. Had to add a friction modifier and resolved the issue entirely. Problem solved, 97% of vibration is gone. This is a dirty little company secret. Manufacturers transmission was recalled and replaced by the dealer. To make it stand out in the crowded midsize sport-ute segment, designers ditched the suave lines of the previous version, in favor of a tougher, more truck-like appearance. Engine compartment smoking to the point I thought it was an engine fire, and transmission fluid leaked all over the driveway.
The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. However, Nissan has done nothing as of the writing of this complaint. My vehicle was originally a lease that i had and I purchased it at the end of the lease. Determined to be faulty drive belt and tensioner. I understand there was a class action suit against Nissan for the transmissions. The coolant system will need to be thoroughly flushed to get the transmission oil out of the coolant passages in your engine and heater core.
The dealer was not contacted. I do not know aht their usual charges woud lbe for the wrok they di. The reman comes pre-flashed, so you do not need to take it to the dealership and pay to have it programmed. New trans and radiator installed. The problem slowly got worse with shuttering occurring at different speeds and under different loadings. As light changed applied pressure to gas pedal but the vehicle would not move the engine would just rev up. As my wife was sitting in the car attempting to contact me to explain the situation, she was thankfully interrupted by a stranger repeatedly honking and driving over towards her vehicle in an aggressive manner.
