Remove the rubber dust boot from around the bulb's base. Remove the round rubber stopper from behind the assembly to expose the lamp. Changing both headlight bulbs on your Sunfire at the same time will allow both bulbs to have the same intensity and prevent the new headlight bulb from appearing brighter than the bulb on the opposite side. I uncliped the bulb wire, turned the bulb with my fingures counter clock wise and it came out. One will come all the way out ,the other will swing up out of yourway. It's tricky because the edges get caught … on the surrounding structures, but it will slide out. Disconnect the wiring harness from the headlamp assembly. Now put the new bulb in and the plactic ring retainer, plug in the wiring. Twist the socket a quarter turn counter clockwise, and pull out the socket. If you are replacing a burned out bulb there is no reason to remove the headlight assembly. Turn them all the way I don't remember if it's clockwise or counter-clockwise and you should see the headlight opening up.
Slide the entire assembly forward. . Insert the new lightbulb into the socket outside of the retention ring. Replacing them is just the opposite. Then consult your owner's manual for the headlight bulb lamp replacement procedure.
As simple as it sounds, the owner's manual is the best place to start for bulb replacement instructions and illustrations. The two metal fasteners have little notches on them, so you have to push them away from yourself as you pull up, so the notches clear the plastic holder. Second, when you install the new bulb, don't touch the lamp bulb glass area, this will add your oil base finger marks and will shorten the bulb life span.
