I even tried running a ground wire jumper from the tank directly to the negative battery post. This problem is unrelated to the stepper motor problem but is often seen in the same clusters. He bought he truck to use for something but it didnt work out. But I could never find where it hooks up to the frame. There are two ways to accomplish this.
The wiring appears to be fine. It will read the mileage of the vehicle that that gauge cluster was taken from. This is a constant source of frustration not being able to use the gauge. I removed the ground and cleaned the connector and roughed up the frame with a wire brush and reconnected. I will be dropping my fuel tanks tomorrow and inspecting my electrical, hopefully to fix the same problem I am having. If not the ground wire, you may have to replace the fuel sending unit inside the tank. If the connection is corroded, there is a possibility the connection is not ground … ed.

So instead of the gauge moving, it now stays on full with the sending unit wire on and also when I remove it. Okay, got up under the truck today and found that both tanks ground in only one location, the left side.
The 99 Chevy Astro fuel gage is driven by a sliding float style potentiometer. Is this a typical thing to have happen after that test? I haven't found a switch anywhere, but will try tracing wires. Have a friend turn over the motor,watch for fuel. I can repair this issue with our repair service for 03-06 Silverado, Suburban, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Avalanche and Escalade models only. If the needle does move, the wiring is fine and the problem is elsewhere in the vehicle's electrical system. On the front of the carburetor where the fuel line comes in is the fuel filter. However, labor is a different issue. I'm new to this forum and have a long-standing issue I'd like some advice on please. Mine ended up a bad circuit board. We add new items all of the time.
